Presidio Letterario Dante Amman Reading club “Strega Prize 2021”

 About Strega Prize

It is the most prestigious Italian literary award established in 1947 by Alberti family (producer of Strega liquor) and Maria and Goffredo Bellonci to promote the contemporary Italian prose fiction. It is awarded every year to an author of a book published in the previous year and the winner is selected through different rounds of ballots by many kinds of Juries (including strong prize juries and reading clubs/groups).

“La Dante” at Strega Prize

Since 2009 Società Dante Alighieri expresses one collective vote which is counted for the first ballot of a short list of five books and then the selection of the final winner. Starting from the edition 2020, Strega Prize reading groups have been established at the “Presidi letterari” of Dante Alighieri. This is a network of Italian and international Committees active in promoting Italian books in Italy and abroad. The most voted author by Dante Alighieri network will receive a special price in Rome in June and will be touring the DA committees involved.

Strega Prize reading group at Dante Amman

Dante Amman has established reading groups of Strega Prize since 2018. The 2021 reading group has been organized in collaboration with the reading club “Lettrici ad Amman” of DIG association (Italian women in Jordan). This year, participants have read the 12 short listed books and commented them during 3 different meetings online. On the 4th of June readers have expressed 3 preferences. This collective vote has been sent to Dante in Rome. The DA collective vote will be counted to select the five-book short list and then the final winner.
