Certify your proficiency in Italian

Dante Alighieri Amman is a recognized Certification Centre authorized by the PLIDA head office in Rome.

The PLIDA (Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri) certificate is an official Certificate issued by the Società Dante Alighieri under an agreement with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the University of Rome La Sapienza. It is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Labor and Social Policies and by the Italian Ministry of University and Research as a qualification for university enrollment of foreign students on concessional terms.

With PLIDA certificate you can…

  •  Clearly show your Italian language level on your curriculum vitae
  •  Enroll in an Italian University without taking the mandatory Italian language examinations (level B2 or C1)
  • Be exempted from the test of Italian to obtain the long term residence permit
  • Apply for the Erasmus Plus program to Italy

Who can take PLIDA Examination? 

  • non native speakers of Italian
  • Italian mother tongue citizens in need of a language proficiency certificate for work or study reasons or else.

Examination structure

The examination consists of four tests that verify the candidate’s proficiency in the four language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Duration of the exam

The total duration of the exam varies from 100 minutes for A2 up to 240 minutes for C2.

Passing the examination and score:

To pass the examination, the candidate has to obtain a minimum of 18/30 in each of the four skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking).

A candidate who does not pass one or up to three single skills can take them again in the following sessions up to 18 months from the date of the first exam.

Examination results and certificate issue

PLIDA Certificate Examination documents are sent from the various Certification Centers to the PLIDA Head Office in Rome, where they are marked and evaluated within 60 days after receiving them. PLIDA main office will issue and send the certificate to the candidates that passed all four skills of the examination. To register for the PLIDA examination, please contact Dante Amman.

PLIDA certificate proves the proficiency in Italian as a foreign language on a system of five levels: from A2 to C2, the most advanced, which certifies a mastery very close to a native level, and can be  used in all professional fields.

Levels are based on common reference levels

A2 Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
Can describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
B1 Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
Can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
Can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
B2 Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialisation.
Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.
Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
C1 Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer clauses and recognize implicit meaning.
Can express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
C2 Can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read.
Can summarize information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation.
Can express themselves spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations.
