Tales of Stones – Historical Reenactment
Program:
3:30pm Welcoming of guests
4pm Official opening of Heritage Days in Jordan
4:30pm Historical Reenactment with the kids of “Tales of Stones”.
At its second edition, the project “Tales of Stones” aims at combining heritage and art, specifically drama.
The main purpose of the project is to educate school-age children by raising awareness towards archaeology and cultural heritage; turning simple notions of ancient history into “tools” of historical empathy (understand the conditions and perspectives of how historical personages made decisions or exhibited specific behaviors) aiming to cultural understanding and mutual comprehension.
Looking back at the history of Jordan and its relations with European civilization, this project aims at enhancing the continuity of history into the present and the lessons that can be learnt by studying the resilience of local populations through the centuries.
The project combines tourism, culture and education by creating a new tool to present archaeological and heritage sites.
Società Dante Alighieri – Comitato di Amman, Sela for Vocational Training and Protection of cultural Heritage and Laboratori Archeologici San Gallo implemented three archaeological themed summer clubs in Hesban, Petra and Amman in collaboration with the Women Association in Hesban, Andrews University, the Italian Embassy in Amman, Petra Archaeological Park, the European Union National Institutes for Culture, the Department of Antiquities of Jordan.
Under the artistic directorship of the Italian actress Tiziana D’Angelo, participants from each camp were involved in the preparation of a historically themed performance for the opening event of the Days of Heritage in Jordan.
